Easy coloring pages

Four to six is the age where staying inside the lines starts to be the point, and it is also the age where a sheet can be too simple. A drawing with eight shapes on it gets finished in two minutes and then nobody wants another one.

These sit at around forty areas each. That is enough to hold attention for a sitting without being the kind of dense pattern that ends in a tantrum, and nine tenths of the space is still in areas at least 4 mm across, wide enough for a colored pencil.

55 sheets at this grade. If they land too young, the full library has more detailed ones.

Using these at a nursery or school

Print and photocopy as many as you need. There is no per-classroom licence to buy and nothing to attribute, because the artwork is original rather than licensed from anyone.

The symmetrical sheets are the useful ones for a group. Color one half, fold, and match the other side: it turns a coloring activity into something with a rule in it, which holds a room of five-year-olds considerably longer.

Questions

What is the difference between easy and toddler?

Region count, mostly. An easy sheet has about twice as many areas to fill in, and some of them are small enough to need a bit of care. Nine tenths of the space is in areas at least 4 mm across, the width of a colored pencil tip, so a crayon covers most of it and a pencil finishes the rest.

My four-year-old finds these too simple. What next?

Look at anything graded medium. Those add fine detail such as scales and patterns, which want colored pencils or fine-tip pens rather than crayons.

Can I print several to a page?

Yes. Choose "2 pages per sheet" in your printer dialog. The artwork is vector so it stays sharp when it is shrunk, though the smallest areas get fiddly at half size.
